Take Heed to Yourself!

Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He has purchased with His own blood (Acts 20:28). Paul gave this admonition at a pastor’s conference he held in Ephesus. Before we’re able to minister to others, we must first of all allow the Lord to minister to us. Sometimes you do more by doing less.

American culture rewards achievement. We’re highly productive sometimes at the expense of our personal fellowship with God and with our spouses and children. This take heed to yourself portion of this scripture is really speaking to me this week! I’m still dealing with a full schedule while pushing away jet-lag symptoms! We all need time to recoup from super-busy times. Burnout results from not take necessary personal rest. Each day of our lives should contain time with God, spouse, kids, work, and recreation and leisure. The recreation and leisure are as equally important as the other things we give attention to. Balance is the ingredient for a God blessed life, a sound mind, even emotions, and a healthy body. The flight attendant always tells you to put the oxygen mask on yourself first in any emergency, before you try to help anyone else. We can’t help others unless we first take care of our personal needs.Join me for some rest at some point today. Add the leisure into your schedule and take heed to yourself!
