God’s Discipline

To discipline a child produces wisdom, but a mother is disgraced by an undisciplined child (Proverbs 29:15) Discipline your children, and they will give you peace of mind and will make your heart glad (Proverbs 29:17). My youngest daughter Lindsay’s birthday is today (15). She is a delight to Susan and me. Children can bring such blessing to your life. Susan and I have always believed strongly in disciplining our children. To discipline a child, you must show them how to do what they should do. You must bring correction when it’s needed. Some people discipline their children out of anger. That will not help them. Discipline is training a child to live successfully with a strong conscience as their guide. To discipline you must bring the outward correction, but with it, there must be counsel. The child must be shown what they did wrong, why it’s wrong, and then shown how to do it right. Then they must be held accountable to do it right! God is the Father of spirits. He disciplines us so that we can be partakers of His holiness. The Father is not a child abuser, so He would never discipline us with sickness or disease, or calamity or tragedy of some kind. Those who teach that the Father disciplines this way simply don’t know Him well. The Father disciplines first of all with His Word. Psalm 94:12-13 reads: Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of thy law; That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked. The Holy Spirit will bring the Word of God to our remembrance over and over in our spirit. If we stubbornly refuse, then He backs up, and allows us to experience the grief of having our own way. And then the enemy sees the disobedience and seeks to enter that door of disobedience to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. It’s a dangerous thing to refuse the Father’s instruction. His way is always best. It delight’s the Father’s heart for us to obey Him, and listen to voice of His Spirit as He reminds us to obey the written Word. And how it grieves Him when we refuse to listen! A child may go astray, but when a parent disciplines and the child conforms, it brings great joy to the parent! My daughter Lindsay is an obedient child. She’s yielded to my instruction as a Father and she’s a delight to me. Let’s bring joy to the heart of the Father today by obeying Him as the Holy Spirit reminds us of the Word when we our flesh wants to go its own way. Let’s keep the door shut to Satan’s tactics of stealing and killing, and destroying by instantly obeying the Father’s disciplining Word!
